NEW! Images of America - Leominster has been reprinted! You can get your copy at the Society for a donation of $20.

On Saturday, Sept. 20th, join us at the Common at 1:00 pm, where Jane Fischer will lead "Views from the Common", about "People, Places and Events centered around the Common", from the 18 and 19th centuries. Download the Common Tour flyer here and bring a friend!

The Common has long been more than the center of town; it has also been a location for an early meetinghouse, a pasture for animals, a gathering place for townspeople, a place for fiery speeches, celebrations, a military enlistment center, a trolley and bus destination, and now is a center for the arrival of Santa, a quiet place to reflect on the many monuments located there, and a restful place to sit under the shade of a leafy tree in summer. Find out what was there as Jane Fischer tells you some of the stories centered around this historic property.

See our Meeting Schedule for 2008-2009 here.

If you purchased "Combing Through Leominster's History" and noted the lack of an index, you will be pleased to know that the Combing Index has been completed! John A. "Jack" Taylor, who grew up in Leominster, and contributed his story to the book, created the index after months of patience and hard work. Our thanks and gratitude to Jack for his herculean effort. Click on the title to download your FREE PDF copy of the index, or click here.

Leominster Historical Society is a private, non-profit organization supported entirely by the dues and contributions of its membership and donors. The Society is dedicated to the preservation of local history, through records, collections and properties. Organized and incorporated in 1906, the Society encourages and promotes the history of Leominster and history in general, and has played an active part in the community throughout its first 102 years.

Meetings and programs are open to the public, and you are encouraged to join the Historical Society in our efforts to preserve historical artifacts and provide interesting programs.

Member Benefits: Members receive the Society's quarterly newsletter, advance notice of public programs, and invitation to member-only exhibits/receptions. Research at the Society is free for members.

We encourage people to come in to the Society for research if possible, as we have numerous  original resources for both genealogy and history as they pertain to Leominster and its citizens. Our all-volunteer staff is on duty during our regular hours. You may wish to call to schedule an appointment.

Our hours of operation are: Tuesday and Saturday, 9am - 12 noon or by appointment. Contact us by email or phone 978-537-5424 for more information or an appointment.

The Historical Society is located at the old brick schoolhouse, formerly Field School, (behind City Hall) on 17 School Street, Leominster, Massachusetts. We welcome community use of the Society's resources for research, and all are welcome to view exhibits at the Society Museum. Please call ahead for school groups.

We seek any photos or artifacts of the school's past, along with any stories of the school that you might remember, to be featured in a display. If you attended Field Primary school, and/or have any memorabilia of the school, we'd like to talk to you. Please contact us at the phone number or email address below.
