Leominster's Charles T. Brown was a member of Company A, 15th
Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment. He and his wife Sarah wrote more
than 80 letters to each other, while Charles took part in the
country's battles between the North and South, in 1861-1862.
In February, the Society acquired
21 of the letters, with intact stamps and envelopes, in pristine
condition. Since then, we have transcribed the letters, researched
the couple, and learned more about this Leominster soldier and his
beloved wife and child.
We are pleased to announce that the
letters will be made available to the public for viewing in June,
2004. We are in the process of determining how best to make them
available for scholarly historic research, and suitably archiving
them.
We will also make some of the
letters available to members on this website. Members have received
a biographical sketch of the family in their newsletter.
Welcome home, Charlie and Sarah, to
the red brick schoolhouse where Sarah once taught.
